Crime Statistics

Each year the SUNY College at Old Westbury, as with other colleges , must compile statistics relative to all crimes that have been reported to the campus police or other entities on campus. These statistics are reported in back pages of the Campus Safety Guide that is produced yearly as required by federal Law and is linked to our police home page. These statistics can also be found on the United States Department of Education website located at http://ope.ed.gov/security.

These statistics include reports made to the Campus officials other than the University Police Department and may represent reports of incidents believed to be made in good faith, but for which no verification has been established. The statistics may also include crimes committed in areas adjoining the campus but not affiliated with the College.

This report makes minor corrections to the “on public property “ requirements of criminal incident reporting for years 2006 thru 2007 but does not change the total number of reported criminal incidents except as noted below.

This report has properly categorized two 2007 sexual offenses as non-forcible that had previously been reported as forcible and the addition of one weapons arrest for 2007. Such corrections have been brought to the attention of the US Department of Education.

Recent federal law mandates that as of 2008 bias related crimes in the criminal classifications of larceny, criminal mischief, simple assault and intimidation shall be identified along with other criminal statistics in the College Safety Report.

** Liquor Law Violations for 2008 reflect only those cases where person (s) was under 21 years of age, however, disciplinary referrals include all ages.

*** Includes liquor violations as identified by New York Institute of Technology and Briarcliffe College (resident hall tenants)
