M.S. in Accounting
The Old Westbury M.S. in Accounting
prepares its graduates to lead
in a financial world constantly
impacted by the need for skilled
professionals in assurance services,
consulting services, financial
planning, and the globalization
of markets.
Each
program offers separate tracks
for accounting professionals
and for those with other backgrounds
and each is designed to meet
the state’s 150-credit hour requirement, enabling graduates to sit for the certified public accountancy examination.
Basis for Admission top
Admission into the MS in Accounting program is available for students applying
for matriculated status only. To be admitted, applicants must:
- Have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Possess
an official GMAT exam score
report dated within the past
two years. Admission into the
MS in Accounting program is
based on a formula that considers
the GMAT score and the applicant's
undergraduate grade point average
(GPA).
Information
about the GMAT exam can be
found a www.gmac.com. The
combination of the weighted
GPA in addition to the GMAT
score must equal 1100 or higher.
The formula to calculate admission
is as follows:
200 X undergraduate GPA + GMAT must = 1100
AND a minimum GMAT score of 500 is required
- Submit
two (2) Letters
of Recommendation which
are
required for admission -
one
from a professor at an undergraduate
institution of record and
the other from an employer/business
associate. See the application
packet for details.
- Complete
a Personal Statement, as outlined in the application packet.
- Present appropriate
documentation verifying that they are in full compliance with the New
York State immunization requirements
There may be a few extenuating circumstances that prompt the Graduate Admission
Committee to review applicants with alternative credentials such as other graduate
degrees, certificates or licenses. The Graduate Admission Committee will review
these cases and decisions will be made on an individual basis.
International applicants (F-1) must also submit a minimum TOEFL score of 550
(paper exam) or 213 (computer exam).
Application Options
There are three options for applying for a graduate program:
- Graduate applications may be completed by using our online graduate application.
This application will be electronically submitted to the Graduate Admission
Office. The application can be saved and filled out in stages. Upon completion
of the online form a confirmation page will appear with instructions for
submitting your signature and application payment. A $50 application fee
must be submitted
to complete the admission process. The remaining portions of the application
(reference letters, transcripts and test scores) should be mailed directly
to the Graduate Admissions Office.

Transcripts top
All applicants must submit an official copy of every transcript from every
institution of higher education ever attended. The transcripts must be mailed

Photocopies, faxed copies or student copies are not considered official. If
college transcripts are from institutions outside the United States, an official
copy (in the original language) must be sent to the Graduate Admission Office
at the College at Old Westbury. An official translation/evaluation by World
Education Services (WES) or Office of International Education Services (AACRAO)
must also be submitted.
Applicants with education outside the United States are also encouraged to
supply a college catalog or course syllabus that reflects the academic content
for each course. This will facilitate the admissions evaluation process.
Medical Requirements top
All students must submit appropriate documentation verifying that they are
in full compliance with the New York State immunization requirements. Students
not in full compliance will not be allowed to register for classes.
Immunization requirements include:
Measles:
Two doses of live measles vaccine administered after one year of age and after
1968: or physician's documentation of having measles; or a blood test
showing immunity.
Mumps
One dose of live mumps vaccine administered after one year of age and after
1969; or physician's documentation of having had mumps; or a blood
test showing immunity.
Rubella (German Measles)
One dose of live rubella vaccine administered after one year of age and after
1969; or a blood test showing immunity.
Please submit medical documentation to the Graduate Admissions Office.
Application Deadlines top
The application for admission and all documents must be submitted by the
appropriate deadline. The deadline for the Fall semester is June 15. Incomplete
applications will not be processed for admission. Completed applications
received after the deadline will be processed on a space available basis.
