SUNY College at Old Westbury is embarking on OW: 2014 -- a lengthy Strategic Planning exercise -- and the College-wide Strategic Planning Committee needs help from everyone in the College community as it prepares a plan that will guide us through the next five years.
A key early step in this process is to have a candid discussion across our campus about the mission of our institution. By mission, we mean: "Who are we as an institution?" and "Why are we doing what we do?"
Between April 13 and May 1, you'll have the chance to participate in the following activities:
- Comment on the Mission Conversation wiki. For anyone with access to the campus network this is a chance to see what others are thinking and to contribute your own thoughts. As preparation, we highly recommend that you review the Overview of Past Mission Statements available via the link on the right hand side of this page. To reach the wiki directly click here or use the "Mission Wiki" link located on the right hand side of the page. You will need to use your campus network username and password.
- Participate in a Town Hall Meeting with College President Calvin O. Butts, III on April 15 during Common Hour in the Duane L. Jones Recital Hall, located in the Campus Center. He will go over the development of the Strategic Plan and talk about his ideas for the development of the College.
- Post your ideas on the wall in Academic Village. See students and staff from the Division of Student Affairs at special tables in the AV beginning April 13 for two weeks (Hours: 11:30 to 1:30 and 4:30 to 7:30 pm, Monday through Thursday) and post your best thinking along with everyone else.
- Join in focus groups. An array of focus groups will also be taking place. If you are asked to participate, please do!
- Provide alumni feedback if you are you a graduate of the College. We encourage the participation of graduates on the mission too. Please contact Penny Chin, Director of Alumni Relations who will connect you to a special alumni space on-line where you can participate.
Participants will be eligible each day (Mon.-Thurs.) to win prizes via a random drawing.
