Assistant Professor/Instructor in African-American History and American Studies - The American Studies/Media and Communications Department anticipates an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in African-American History and American Studies, beginning in August 2008. Ph.D. in hand in History, American Studies or related field required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor; ABD in final stages of dissertation completion will be considered for initial appointment at the rank of Instructor. Experience teaching a diverse, urban, student population required. Library
Business Reference Librarian - The College at Old Westbury Library is seeking a Business Reference Librarian at the Senior Assistant Librarian rank, who, as a member of the reference team, plans and delivers the full range of reference and instructional services. These include assistance with print and electronic resources, library instruction, and creation of subject-oriented research guides and web pages. The Business Reference Librarian will participate in projects such as the development of on-line reference service, distance education course support, services relating to numeric data files, and web page management. The Business Reference Librarian will have primary responsibility for these services for the School of Business faculty and students. Collection management responsibilities will also be assigned in appropriate subject areas. The School of Business currently has graduate programs in accounting and finance which the Business Reference Librarian will have the opportunity to support with advanced research databases. The position will include scheduled night and weekend hours. This Librarian participates in professional development activities, and serves on library and College committees as elected or assigned; other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program with an undergraduate business degree required; a graduate business degree desirable. Demonstrable knowledge of business resources in both print and electronic format required. One year experience in a corporate business library or in an academic business library required. The ideal candidate will be comfortable, and keep current, with technology; will communicate effectively with both faculty and new undergraduates; and will be an independent self-starter who is also an effective team member. Assistant Director of Human Resources - The Assistant Director of Human Resources, in concert with the Director of Human Resources, assists with coordinating the appointment, classification, compensation, and benefits administration for professional and classified employees; as well as labor relations and administration of contracts with employee bargaining units, maintenance of personnel records and ensures that data is accurately maintained and protected and that management information systems are effective and appropriately utilized. The Assistant Director of Human Resources also has responsibility for implementing the college's commitment to equal employment opportunity/affirmative action. The Assistant Director of Human Resources works with and advises college staff in matters relating to effective personnel management. Incumbents usually are the campus' appointing authority for all classified service employees with the understanding that the NYS Department of Civil Service is the final appointing authority. In addition, the Assistant Director of Human Resources is usually the designated "disciplinary officer" for all classified service employees, and on many campuses may also be designated to serve this role for both academic and professional employees. Enrollment Verification and Veteran's Affairs Coordinator (Instructional Support Assistant) - Train and supervise the counter keyboard specialist in counter duties related to enrollment verification. Serve as evening hour supervisor to CSEA staff and student assistants. Coordinate Veteran's Affairs enrollment verification and follow-up status reports. Manage the enrollment verification process including: verification of applications for the CPA exams; liaison with the National Student Clearinghouse; verifications not administered through NSC; and subpoena processing. Assist with all enrollment verification related processes. QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in a Registrar's Office required. Associate's degree or equivalent and experience with the Banner student system preferred.
