Scholarships

It is important to understand that scholarships are both an honor and a funding vehicle. The financial aspects of scholarships are governed by rules and regulations and are administered by the Office of Financial Aid.

Students may not receive total annual financial aid (Federal, State, Private, Institutional, grants, scholarships, loans etc.) in excess of Old Westbury's budgeted cost of attendance. Sometimes it may be necessary to reduce scholarship award amounts in order to stay in compliance with this Federal regulation. If you receive a scholarship from any source other than the College or the Old Westbury College Foundation, Inc., you should contact your financial aid advisor to see how it may affect your overall financial aid package.

For more information on scholarships, contact Ms. Mary D'Antonio in the Office of Academic Affairs, 516-876-3446.

*Most scholarships offered by SUNY College at Old Westbury and the Old Westbury College Foundation are made possible thanks to the generous donations of friends of the college. The amount and number of scholarships awarded is dependent upon the availability of these donations. All awards and programs are subject to change without notice as a result of fluctuations in funding levels.

Listed below are the general requirements for all scholarships.  top

I. Eligibility

  • Applicants must be registered as a current full-time matriculated SUNY College at Old Westbury student, unless otherwise specified.
  • Applicants must have a minimum SUNY College at Old Westbury GPA of 3.0, unless otherwise specified.
  • Graduating seniors who will only be attending the fall semester may apply. If the graduating senior is the chosen recipient, he/she will only receive one half the award.
  • Applicants must submit an original essay, 500 words minimum, based on a specified topic. Send your essay on a disk in Microsoft Word, along with a printed copy
  • Applicants must complete the SUNY College at Old Wetsbury Foundation, Inc. Scholarship Application.

II. Criteria for Selection

  • The Standing Scholarship Committee Board will review all applications.
  • The applicant's essay is an essential factor in selecting scholarship recipients.
  • The Committee will judge essays for composition, conveying thoughts accurately and precisely, grammar and spelling.

III. Limitations

  • Scholarship awards may only be used toward the college costs at SUNY College at Old Westbury, unless otherwise specified.
  • The award will be disbursed in two equal amounts. The first half will be issued during the fall semester and the remaining half in the spring semester. Recipients will receive the spring semester's award only if he/she continues to fulfill the scholarship requirements.
  • If the recipient is a graduating senior, the final semester's award will not exceed the cost of tuition and fees.
  • If a student is awarded more than one scholarship award, the total amount of all the awards may not exceed the student's tuition and fees.

Applications are due Friday, April 25, 2008. The application must be post-marked or dropped off by the end of the business day. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted.
