Applying to Graduate

To become a candidate for graduation and to participate in commencement, a student must file an application for graduation with the Office of the Registrar by sending an email from his or her Old Westbury email account to gradapp@oldwestbury.edu. Students are urged to review their degree audit reports often to make sure they are making progress towards their degree.  If the degree audit report displays missing requirements, a student cannot apply for graduation unless the student can provide proof that the missing degree requirements will be completed the summer following May graduation or the winter following December graduation.

  • There are four graduation terms (December, January, May and August) but only one commencement ceremony in May. December and January graduates and candidates for May and August may participate in the commencement ceremony. Example: Fall 2013 and Winter 2013 graduates, and Spring 2014 and Summer 2014 candidates may participate in the May 2014 commencement ceremony.
  • Participating in the commencement ceremony does not denote degree completion for graduation.
  • Names of candidates for whom applications are accepted after the application deadline will not appear in the commencement program.
  • The graduation application deadlines are typically early October for December and January candidates and early March for May and August candidates. The exact dates are listed in the college academic calendar and the semester Important Dates, Deadlines and General Information, which are posted on the campus WEB site.
