The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) was created to allow students to be
admitted to college who would not normally be able to attend. The program is
for those who have are both educationally and financially in need of assistance,
who would not be able to be in college without help from the program.
To be eligible
for admission to EOP, a student must: be a New York State resident with a
high school diploma or its equivalent. They must be ineligible for admission
under normal standards, but able to show, to the campus EOP admissions'
committee,
potential for completing a college program and be in need of financial
assistance as defined by the New York State Department of Education. The Office
of Enrollment
Services, the Office of Financial Aid and the EOP Office jointly determine
eligibility.
The EOP helps the students in the program with a variety of support services
including tutoring, personal counseling, academic advisement, career advisement,
financial aid, and workshops on study habits to help with their academic development
and achievement.
To assist enrolled program students in meeting their college costs, financial
aid packages are provided on an individual basis. The financial aid package
for each student is determined by the Financial Aid Office based on need and
financial background. Students enrolled in EOP must apply for both state and
federal financial aid, with the balance of the students' college costs
met through EOP funds, work study and/or loans.
Interested applicants must file the SUNY Application for Admission and must
specify on the SUNY application, their interest in the EOP program.
Are Transfer Students Eligible?
Transfer students are eligible if they have been enrolled in EOP, HEOP (Higher
Educational Opportunity Program), SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation and
Knowledge), or a similar program, at their previous college, for the educationally
and economically disadvantaged. If no EOP or similar program existed at the
previous college at the time the applicant attended, or if EOP was not requested,
the applicant should contact the transfer college.
What Conditions Must Be Met to Be Admitted?
To be considered for EOP admission at the College at Old Westbury, BOTH financial
eligibility criteria AND academic eligibility criteria must be met.
