Enabling students to accelerate their high school studies while earning college credit is recognized nationally as a means of increasing high school graduation as well as college completion rates among disadvantaged students. To foster improvement in these areas in the Long Island and metropolitan New York marketplace, SUNY College at Old Westbury under the leadership of President Calvin O. Butts, III, has expanded its efforts to integrate its expertise into the schools and organizations serving the surrounding communities.
Old Westbury offers three formal Early College High School programs that promote college readiness among students:
- Smart Scholars: Provides for credit-bearing college courses, most of which are being offered in Roosevelt High School in the 11th and 12th grades.
- Harlem RBI University: Offered in collaboration with Harlem RBI, year-long programs focused on identity and engagement serving 25-30 Latino and African-American students from New York City annually.
